Maybe you’ve been wondering why I haven’t updated this site in some time. Well, here’s why..
I’m super proud to announce the release of No Sleep THE comprehensive collection of NYC nightlife flyers. For the last handful of years, alongside my co-author, Stretch Armstrong, we’ve amassed the most complete collection of flyer art and created this book as a visual history of the halcyon days of New York City club life told through flyer art.
Spanning the late 80s through the late 90s, when nightlife buzz traveled via flyers and word of mouth, No Sleep is a collection of artwork from the personal archives of NYC DJs, promoters, club kids, nightlife impresarios, and the artists themselves.
Now, f you’ve ever liked, reblogged or talked about upnorthtrips - here’s your call to action - go buy the book.
Its entertaining, its educational, and is a road mapto long-lost forgotten era of NYC.
Here’s where we are on social.
Songs About Compton by Brad McCormick
30 West-Coast bangers name-dropping LA’s most notorious hood. Brad’s list is a great audio compliment if you’re watching egotripland’s great 15 Rap Videos Dedicated to the City of Compton on mute. To be fair though, no Compton list is complete without Tim Dog’s ‘Fuck Compton’. RIP
Stax Samples by Brad McCormick
Rap Samples from TV by Thomas Michael Chavarria
50 TV theme songs and their rap-sampled counterparts, in order! I’m sure its not a complete library of EVERY one, but dude went in and covered some of the great ones. Which rapper sampled TV the most? I’ll let you find out…
Ayo My Dipset Taliban by Steven Rodriguez
Eastside Stevie aka A$AP Yams navigates those Harlem streets, putting together over 200 Dipset joints.
Entourage All Seasons by Scott Vener
Curated by the man behind the music of Entourage, himself. This playlist is a must-listen to any fan of the show. Whether it was a classic Ari Gold rant scene of that perfect song that rolled over the end credits, they’re all here.
