UpNorthTrips Presents The 10s | MPC | MC/Producer Combos: 10 Nasty Nas x Salaam Remi Joints
There are a handful of MPCs (MC/Producer Combinations) that just sound right together. Eminem  and Dr. Dre,  Jay-Z and Just Blaze, Raekwon and RZA are a couple obvious ones that immediately come to mind. But not often enough in the discussion of best rapper/beatmaker tag teams are Nas and Salaam Remi mentioned. The two created well over a dozen records together in the past decade, and they’re pretty much all crack. And with their latest heater “Nasty” from Nas’ upcoming album Life Is Good still in heavy rotation from the summer, and “Its A Tower Heist” with Rick Ross freshly buzzing on the web, we felt it would be fitting for today’s edition of The 10s to feature 10 Nas songs produced by Salaam Remi. Pay homage.1. Song: “Nazareth Savage” Album: Streets DiscipleYear: 2004 Breakdown: Slept on album cuts like this really make a strong case in favor of Nas to be crowned the G.O.A.T. I bet even Hov would repent.UNT Quotable: “I had bad chicks that blow cum bubbles like bubble gum.” -Nas2. Song: “Made You Look” Album: God’s SonYear: 2003Breakdown: It’s beautiful when a rap artist is able to win the streets and the clubs over with one song, which is what Nas did with this Bravehearts anthem. They shootin’!UNT Quotable: “Girls get close, you could feel where the tool’s kept.” -Nas3. Song: “You Know My Style”Album: Streets DiscipleYear: 2004Breakdown: Salaam lets the bass beat bang so the intelligent gangster can spit that fly shit that gets all the girls’ coochie’s wet. You know his style.UNT Quotable: “Call fattys bubbles, call head skull.” -Nas4. Song: “Less Than An Hour” f/ Cee-Lo GreenAlbum: Greatest HitsYear: 2007Breakdown: This song first appeared on the Rush Hour 3 Soundtrack, and finally made its way to Nas’ Greatest Hits release. We like this, and are hoping for a follow up Nas x Cee-Lo x Salaam Remi collaboration sometime in the near future.UNT Quotable: “Popular, box cutter flow, time is money, the watch cost dough.” -Nas5. Song: “Don’t Body Ya Self”Album: N/AYear: 2007Breakdown: Nas takes shots at fellow Queens natives Mobb Deep and 50 Cent on this leaked diss track. Great story.UNT Quotable: “Then he brings me to his castle in Coconut Grove, war stories about dudes both of us know, never heard drunken words spoken so slow.” -Nas7. Song “Serious” f/ AZAlbum: AZ “Serious/Live Wire” 12”Year: 2005Breakdown: Nas and AZ have a bunch of collabos together, from “Life’s A Bitch” to “Mo Money Mo Murder” to “How Ya Livin,” and they’re all hot. But Salaam Remi gives them the canvas to take their flows to a whole other plateau with this dark, almost tribal, percussion heavy banger. You can’t be serious.UNT Quotable: “Flow tight as a midget’s closet.” -Nas10. Song: “What Goes Around”Album: StillmaticYear: 2001Breakdown: Nas addresses all the poisons that are bringing our society down, from drugs to fast food to violence to religion.
