WOHOPtakeout: STRETCH & BOB TAPES

Back in 1994 I began listening to a local college radio station in New York City WKCR 89.9FM on Thursday nights from 1am to 5am. It became my Mecca every single Thursday no matter where I was or what I was doing I made it a point to head home, line up enough cassettes to record the entire show. These guys were the pioneers of hip hop radio. Tons of special guests came through to bless the mic Natural Elements, Nas, Wu-tang Clan, Big L, Kool G. Rap, Biggie the list goes on. They catered to underground hip hop community. Gave us exclusive never heard before tracks. They played DEMOS on the air. Son they play shit literally a year before major so called hip hop radios stations added it to there rotation, if that…… Just the other day I was thinking about how easy passing music off to one another has become so common that you don’t realize it. I mean on the reals think about it you can email entire albums to your peoples without leaving your of crib. And do so in less then 10 minutes. You lose that connection, that bond for the music. For example if ya man’s had a Bobbito & Stretch tape and you wanted a copy he or she had to actually sit there and record it from one cassette to another, which means if the tape was an hour long guess what? It took an hour to record it, not to mention you had to troop to his or her crib and back to obtain your physical copy. And let’s not forget how exclusive it was, you didn’t just share it with anyone. You guarded that tape like a precious jewel. So today I decided to share with the world, feed your soul, remind you what hip hop is. Below are a few recorded sessions from the Bobbito and Stretch show. FYI to keep in the spirit of tape decks these downloads are one track files. Ya’ll gonna have to listen to it in your mp3 players like a walkman straight from the motherfuckin’ cassette!! ENJOY

Stretch & Bobbito - MF Doom [1997] (via @_DirtyWaters)Not sure the date on this one, some time in 1997. MF Doom guests with Megalon and has Stretch throw on some old school G Rap instrumentals to flow over. Some weird pauses in the middle of this tape, but a great krunchtime session towards the end..
1) MF Doom Gas Draws 2) Mic Break w/MF Doom 3) MF Doom, Megalon, Lord Sear Freestyle 4) Beatnuts - Here’s A Drink 5) Cru - Bubblin’ 6) Godfather Don - Seeds of Hate 7) Krunchtime
