EGOTRIPLAND: 8 Suspects Who Might Have Hacked Rick Ross’ Twitter Account… And Their Possible Motives

"This weekend the twitter account of @rickyrozay, aka “Rick Ross” was mysteriously hacked, his onscreen ID replaced by 50 Cent’s twitter icon and copious mentions of G-Unit all over the place (oh my, what a virtual ransacking). While it’s true that Fiddy is anti-wanksta, pro-pranksta, it seems highly possible based on the tweets that were sent out, that the he’s not the figga behind it all. So if it ain’t Curtis Jackson, who else could it possibly be?

EGOTRIPLAND: Raekwon Interview Pre-"OB4CL" (1995)

In June 1995 on a sweltering hot day in New York City I interviewed Raekwon for ego trip magazine issue #5 in advance of Rae’s soon-to-be-released Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… At the time of the interview I hadn’t yet heard the album (my lone attempt to get an acquaintance at Loud Records to let me peep it having been met with words to the effect of: “You wanna hear how it sounds? How the fuck you think it sounds? It sounds fuckin’ DOPE.”). Yet based on the pre-LP singles “Heaven and Hell” and “Glaciers of Ice” (as well as Rae’s beyond hungry performances on Wu-Tang’s 36 Chambers and Method Man’s “Meth vs. Chef”) I’d already easily convinced myself that the album was going to be incredible. Then again it could have sounded like Killarmy reading the Staten Island phone book and I would have probably still rode for it, my Wu-Tang Stan-dom in those days being such. I was, of course, eventually vindicated when The Purple Tape dropped on August 1st, 1995 – exactly l6-years ago – and became an instant classic.

Ego Trip - J-Zone presents…Fight Night!: Rap vs. The English Language

The English language has had enough. For 20+ years, it has been misused and abused accidentally, on purpose, and with glee by rap music. However, Judge J-Zone, while sympathetic of the plaintiff’s claims, sees the entertainment in bending, twisting out of shape, and completely mangling the King’s English. The purpose of this trial is to decide what needs to be done about this quagmire. Should rappers be required to pass high school English before releasing their work to the public? Or should Merriam-Webster take the stick out of their ass and amend the dictionary and all grammar rules to suit the ingenuity of rap(pers)?

READ TWEET | EGOTRIPLAND - J. Rocc’s 10 Favorite Sample Flips

If you’re familiar with J. Rocc first and foremost as a DJ – or more accurately, one of the best DJs on this here Planet Earth – no one can exactly blame you. Since co-founding the renowned Beat Junkies turntablist crew in ’92, the Los Angeleno’s destroyed sets wherever steel wheels spin – clubs, radio, mix-tapes, and live shows (having backed Madlib in concert since the early ’00s, as well as Madlib and J Dilla when the two performed together as Jaylib). However, this past April, J. also exhibited himself to be a damn formidable producer, dropping an excellent and long overdue debut album, Some Cold Rock Stuf (Stones Throw), that proved his time hangin’ with Otis Jackson and James Yancey was obviously well spent. With so much knowledge and appreciation for the construction and deconstruction of tracks in the “Funky President’s” sphere it was only right that we contact his office to request an address of his all-time top sample flips.

The 10s | The War Report: Semi-Automatic Full Rap Metal Jacket
Today marks twenty-five years since the release of Stanley Kubrick’s gripping Vietnam War drama, Full Metal Jacket. And while most heads may not necessarily associate this movie directly with hip-hop, it’s easy to see the influence that both it and other war flicks have had upon rap (the infamous “Me love you long time” sample in 2 Live Crew’s “Me So Horny,” for instance). Thus, in order to celebrate the silver anniversary of this classic, we handpicked some great “War” titled (thought not necessarily war-related), battle-tested rap joints and put them in a raw as hell mix.
